Huichol Art Masks

Huichol and Cora masks reflect the most complete interaction between indigenous and non-indigenous people in contemporary Mexico. In the traditional Huichol and Cora rites the masked dancers represent wild beings of the coastal plains associated with the primordial growth, the uninitiated and the non-indigenous (mestizos); those Huichol art masks that are made with chaquira show a colorful and easily recognized work with Huichol symbols such as the deer, the eagle, the peyote, the snake, the scorpion and several others.
