Description
The Guardians
by Mariano Valadez
Meaning of the stamping: In Huichol custom there are five cardinal points: north, south, west, east and center. Each cardinal point has its guardians and objects of power accessed by shamans when they chant and pray. The guardians have their relevant objects, such as jícaras with sacred water, which represent the mother of corn and other female deities. Snakes and muwieris represent masculine healing energy, such as fire and the sun. The deer is the intermediary between the human world and the spiritual world and the peyote in the center is the path to all knowledge and divine teachings.
