Jícara intervened in Huichol art.
The huichol art jícara is a traditional handcrafted piece of the Huichol culture, originally from the regions of the Sierra Madre Occidental, in the states of Jalisco, Nayarit, Durango and Zacatecas, Mexico. It is a small cup or vessel made from the shell of the jicara fruit (which is a dried fruit, similar to a calabazo), which is decorated with intricate and colorful designs using Huichol art techniques.
The process of creating a Huichol jícara is meticulous and laborious. First, the fruit shell is prepared, cleaned and dried. Then, the artisans apply a layer of wax or resin to create a base on which the small chaquira beads will be glued, which are placed one by one in patterns that reflect the artisan's vision of the world.
This art has been passed down from generation to generation, and continues to be a symbol of identity and cultural resistance for the Huichol people.
