Ojo de Dios - Huichol Art
The "eye of God" or "iñurika" in the Huichol language is an object of spiritual and cultural significance in the tradition of the indigenous peoples of Mexico, especially among the Huichol or Wixárikas.
It consists of a colorful woven thread wrapped in a wooden frame or sticks in the shape of a cross. This object is traditionally used in religious ceremonies and rituals.
The process of creating the eye of God involves weaving the thread into a pattern that represents different aspects of the Huichol cosmovision. Each color and design has a symbolic and spiritual meaning within the culture. For example, red may represent the sun, blue may represent water, white may represent light, etc.
The eye of God has multiple interpretations within the Huichol culture, but in general, it is considered a symbol of spiritual protection, harmony and connection with the divine. In ceremonies, it is believed that the elaboration of the eye of God and its observation can bring blessings, protection and balance to the community and to the individuals who create or wear it.
